Lecture Overview:

Career planning for college students is a long-term process that spans their four years in university. This lecture aims to help students establish awareness of career concepts and engage in long-term planning. It provides course guidance for lower-grade students and emphasizes the development of career skills and internship opportunities for upper-grade students. Higher education places increased importance on cultivating students' ability to independently solve problems and their collaborative leadership skills. The lecture will introduce various aspects of education at American universities, including majors, curriculum, internships, and entering the workforce. Using the University of North Texas as an example, it will specifically address undergraduate education and career planning for college students.

Speaker Bio:

Yuan Xiaohui is appointed as a tenured professor at the University of North Texas, director of the Computer Vision and Intelligent Systems Laboratory, and a Senior Member of IEEE. He earned his bachelor's degree in electronic engineering from Hefei University of Technology in 1996 and a Ph.D. from Tulane University in 2004. In the same year, he joined the National Institutes of Health in the United States. In 2006, he was appointed as an assistant professor at the University of North Texas, becoming an associate professor with tenure in 2012. His main research interests include computer vision, machine learning, and artificial intelligence. He has led over 20 research projects supported by organizations such as NASA, the U.S. Air Force Laboratory, the National Science Foundation, and the U.S. Geological Survey. His research results have been published in over 200 international conferences and journals, including more than 80 SCI-indexed papers and over 70 EI-indexed papers. His h-index on Google Scholar is 38, and his i10-index is 85. Professor Yuan Xiaohui received the Ralph E. Powe Professor Award in 2008, and the U.S. Air Force Visiting Professor Award in 2011, 2012, and 2013. He received two research awards and a teaching award from the University of North Texas in 2007, 2008, and 2012, and was included in Who's Who in America in 2010. He serves as an associate editor, editorial board member, and guest editor for several international journals and has participated as an organizing member and session chair in various international conferences. He is a reviewer for research projects from NASA, NSF, NIH, and others.
